Cardiology research is complex and ever evolving. How does one stay on top of the information overload of clinical trends, treatment guidelines, and research? As the expression goes, it can be like drinking from a firehose! And with over 350 Cardiology journals to choose from, how do you select those most relevant to you? Hereby we have presented the top 15 journals based on their h5-index. The h5-index is a similar measure as the impact factor, meaning that in the past 5 years, h number of articles have been cited h number of times.

Journal of American College of Cardiology h5-index: 167

  • What caught our eye: This is the official journal of the American College of Cardiology. JACC is a comprehensive family of 7 journals, encompassing CME, 7 therapeutic “hubs”, guidelines, and conference proceedings. It is a go-to for any cardiology researcher and practitioner.

  • Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Ltd.

  • What caught our eye: Circulation is geared towards anyone wishing to stay informed about issues related to cardiovascular disease research. This journal publishes manuscripts related to both observational studies and clinical trials as well as translational research.

European Heart Journal h5-index: 154

  • What caught our eye: This journal is an official journal of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Its focus is on publishing research manuscripts and reviews as well as evaluations. EHJ also encourages conversation and exchange between its readers. Also important is its inclusions of content of and discussion about ESC guidelines. This journal is of immediate relevance to any practitioners within the EU. For practitioners outside of the EU, it is good to be informed about current trends in other jurisdictions.

  • What caught our eye: Heart is an official journal of the British Cardiovascular Society; in addition to publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts discussing cardiovascular disease including valvular and congenital heart disease, imaging and surgery, each issue also contains a professional education section as well as a review of other relevant journal articles. Also of interest are the free regular podcasts provided by this publication.

European Journal of Heart Failure             h5-index: 69
